This past Labour Day long weekend, I was downtown just walking around enjoying the hustle and bustle of Queens & SLC Move in weekend. We decided to go checkout the Market and just do some people watching, taking in the sights and smells of downtown. While down there we had remembered that BLU Martini had Gluten Free fish & Chips, and so we decided to go check them out and find out how gluten free they actually were.
Contrary to my fears, they have a dedicated fryer. Life changing. We immediately decided to share lunch and enjoy a drink on the patio. I got a virgin margarita and we dove right into the menu. We were advised everything on the menu can be adjusted to be gluten free, but they also advised their menu is basically all gluten free, they have some bread to dip with some of the meals but that bread is kept and prepped in a totally separate area of the kitchen. They really seem to know the process for keeping things celiac safe. We decided on the Fish & Chips, and the Coconut shrimp as our appetizer. The Coconut shrimp had a pineapple curry dip which was fantastic. They were hot, sweet and the perfect amount of crunchy goodness.
The Fish & Chips. OH MY GOSH. Beyond to die for. The coleslaw that came with it was extremely spicy so it was the black sheep on the plate, but my boyfriend ate it as I can’t handle spice. The fish had a batter that seemed to be some sort of corn flake type cereal and a rice flour blend. It worked well, I’d say skip the huge chunks of cereal but the rice flour blend was so tasty. Also the fries were amazing obviously, but I’m also a fry freak so any chance I get to eat fries I certainly take. The french fries were seasoned perfectly, as was the tartar sauce.
The menu is super easy to read, next time I’ll be getting the chicken fingers and french fries, and more than likely even more. The menu items are clearly marked with a green GF – but they can adjust all the menu items to be gluten free. Overall this place is definitely Celiac Safe, however please always advise your server of your requirements as this was my experience only and yours will be different. I have done the foot work and asked these questions but things change frequently so I always leave a disclaimer to be your own advocate and only order what you feel is safe based on the information you have at the time of ordering.
I am here to give you a list of my favourite items I purchase from Amazon for packing lunches for back to school or even work. Lunches can be SO difficult, so I hope the items I post here you are able to enjoy and also find great use out of, and hopefully help with having stress free lunch packing. Further to that, on most of the items I am posting they are significantly cheaper than most retail stores, and the convenience of having them ship right to your door, plus you can even set up Subscribe & Save if you want to “Set it and forget it!”
Amazon Prime also gets you free 2 day shipping, which is worth its weight in GOLD. If you haven’t you can get a free month membership and also university & college students get a reduced rate or free in some areas (Subject to your location). So without making you wait any longer, click below to see my favourite Lunch and On The Go items.
***Also including a link to GF Stickers- that way you can put the stickers on your childs lunch bag and or containers/drink holders, etc ***
Happy Shopping friends and best of luck with BTS for yourself, your family & kiddos!
Going back to about 2015/2016 was when I first discovered Kelly’s Bake Shoppe and officially became a part of “Kelly’s Tribe.”
Kelly Childs and Erin Weatherbee are the co-owners and also super fantastic mother-daughter duo who run the Kelly’s ship! These women are idols to me, and I love their determination and commitment to their customers. I actually reached out to both before hand to introduce myself, I was really hoping to meet them face to face to really thank them for all they are doing.
Located at 13633 Loyalist Parkway in Picton, ON its just a short drive for me from Kingston, and perfectly situation for all those great beach days in the Summer. I bought something of everything there- including a Nanimo Ice cream in which we are savouring and will keep it in the freezer until the day comes that we eat it.
So what is so great about Kelly’s In The County? Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Peanut Free, Vegan, and Egg Free (just to name a few). They use natural colouring (Hello Beets!!) and never put any added junk in their products. I saw a post on instagram of someone who brought their daughter who has never been able to eat from a bakery due to her anaphylactic allergies and all I can think is that this is what it’s all about. These women are literally changing lives of so many people! You are absolutely safe to eat here as it is 100% gluten free! Completely Celiac Safe.
We have to wait until next year for the official opening but I want to thank Kelly and Erin for coming this way and giving us a taste of what is to come. I am very excited and cannot express enough gratitude for them and all they are doing for the Celiac Community.
Everyone knows how seriously I take my sleep. Dealing with Chronic Migraines and auto-immune diseases means sleep is a crucial part of my day to day maintenance for optimal health.
If you’ve been following my instagram you will have seen my various stories, and posts where I’ve been talking about my experience this past month with my Serenity Queen Mattress that I received from Alea Sleep.
I have been needing a new mattress for quite a while now, and when my boyfriend and I decided to move in together it made sense to get a new mattress so we start fresh. After researching a lot I came to the decision to get our new mattress from Alea Sleep. Let me tell you just a few reasons why:
They are Canadian! From the design, creation, and production it is all done in Toronto, ON — supporting local is something I am extremely involved in. If I can support locally I absolutely chose to do so, every single time. Not only that, but it means much quicker shipping. I kid you not, 3 business days and it was at my front door.
Organic (hello!!) mattress. Need I say more? You all know me by now, and I am the Organic Nerd that tries to find every way to keep my life as pure, organic based, and eco-friendly as I possibly can. Seeing as how we spend so many hours sleeping, having an Organic mattress to sleep on is that much better for your body. Not as many chemicals or toxins to fight off while your body is resting. They are actually 100% Certified GOTS Organic!
They actually donate mattresses to local community events, as well as those who are in need. 1 out of every 10 mattresses is donated to a cause that is close to Alea Sleep. Not many small businesses are able to give back so this shows so much community involvement from a smaller company.
101 sleep night trial to test it out. If you aren’t satisfied after 101 nights, simply return it for your full money back.
Just a few of the reasons why I am so in love with this company and the mattress. I have to say I have always been an incredibly light sleeper. This mattress is really good because of the memory foam, so I don’t feel my significant other moving out of the bed, which in turn is really allowing me to have some really deep sleeps. This is a huge chance from before when literally the wind blowing would wake me up.
The setup was very simple and easy as you can see in the video. They are 10.5′ thick, the box is heavy enough that two of us had to lift it, but it was so simple. It took no more than 10 minutes to be fully ready to use. We tried a few nights with no box spring, but for us the box spring offered more support which is what we were needing in the end. Alea does sell a box spring and a matching frame also if you are needing the full set up!
Overall I (but really I mean we!) are beyond happy with this bed. It fits all our needs and is definitely improving our sleep noticeably. I am optimistic it will continue to provide us with the back support we need all the while staying extremely comfortable!

In honour of my 29th birthday last Thursday, we checked out Fruition Berry Farm, located just off the 401 & hwy 15 in Kington, ON.
A great place to take your family, spouse, or even take your friends. The farm is quite large, with lots of picking to be done. At $11 per large container, that’s quite the steal for local, fresh, in season strawberries. There is also a $1 charge if you need a basket. I got a really awesome travel tripod for my birthday from my boyfriend (he’s always supporting the blogging dream I have) we were finally able to get my first official YouTube Vlog completed.
They take debit and cash, there is also a small barbecue food stand thats serving Hot dogs, burgers, etc as well as drinks. However, there are no Gluten Free options so be sure to eat ahead of time or bring some snacks (try not to snack on the berries even though I’m guilty of it a couple times haha) and definitely stay hydrated. It was about 30 degrees with a very extreme humidity level that day so it wound up being a pretty quick trip but overall it was very fun and great to get outside exploring. Since then I have made a delicious Strawberry Vanilla cake and it was amazing.
So, with all that being said, here is my very first official Youtube Vlog! I hope you enjoy, please hit the subscribe button and leave your comments, suggestions, feedbacks, etc! I’m definitely doing a lot more vlogging this summer so stay tuned.
Grizzly Grill x Cottage Springs Patio Party – 6.21.19
Last Friday we were invited to one of Kingston’s most popular restaurants downtown. Located on Princess St, Grizzly Grill is a great establishment with all kinds of events going on. Cottage Springs Vodka Soda were in town and doing some samples of the drinks, so we were invited to try out the drinks and all the gluten free food. The Griz has pool tables, a bar, two floors to choose from for dining, and a really great patio also. This was my first time dining at the patio, but I have eaten here quite often before as they are so familiar with Cross Contamination and how to accommodate the needs of most dietary issues.
Cottage Springs vodka soda is a gluten free drink made by a Canadian Company based out of Toronto. Not only are the drinks Gluten Free, but they are also Sugar Free and Sweetener Free. Using only natural flavours, these drinks are absolutely refreshing and for someone like myself who avoids sugar as much as possible due to Rheumatoid Arthritis, these drinks are a hit. With flavours like Ontario Peach, Watermelon, and Lemon Lime there is certainly a flavour for everyone. They are light, refreshing, and I found them very flavourful.
The food was fantastic, as always. The Grizz sources local produce and meats as much as possible. This is one of the things about Kingston businesses I truly love. Everyone supports each other and our economy can only benefit from this circle we have going in town. I love seeing companies source local and support each other.
They had half price appetizers so we got an order of delicious Mussels in an Orange Citrus Creme Sauce. Mussels are one of my most ordered apps. Not only are they packed with iron but they are so light and I love the texture of them. We shared one of the most fantastic Steak & Avocado salads that I have ever tasted, although I would highly suggest Grizz uses Goat Cheese on it instead of the thick sliced parmesan, but overall it was a really fantastic salad with tons of flavour and the juiciest steak I’ve had in a long while.
The Chicken Pesto Pizza we ordered as our main was on a Gluten Free Thin crust. The crust was quite delicious and crunchy. I’m a huge fan of Pesto sauce on my pizzas, and this one inspired us to actually attempt to make our own Pesto this summer for our pizzas at home.
The Grizzly Grill will be having another Patio Party next week with Strongbow Cider – if you’re interested be sure to call and make a reservation! These patio parties are a blast and we will be attending as many as possible. As always, be sure to ask your own questions/call ahead and speak to whomever is in charge and can answer your questions. The Grizzly Grill is able to accommodate dietary restrictions but it is your responsibility to double check before dining. My experiences are my own, and I have always done lots of research before I dine at any establishment.
**The food and drinks in this have been provided by Grizz & Cottage Springs, but the feedback and opinions are my own**
I am the first to admit I’m a total and complete Amazon Prime addict. I work from home, and rarely drive due to migraines so being able to order something and know it will arrive extremely quickly is a game changer for me!
So- What do I order from Amazon? Literally everything. If you create a wish list, I have it set up that I’m alerted anytime there is a price drop. I also frequently check out the Warehouse Deals because the items in there are totally fine, half the price, and they do accept returns on warehouse items so you can’t possibly lose. I have gotten so many household items (decor & furniture) reduced by so much because of the Warehouse Deals. I also take advantage of Subscribe & Save as a Prime member, and am always checking the timed deals. Once you start to make purchases Amazon will highlight items related to what you’ve searched and often times you will find an item you had looked at on a Timed Deal.
A few of my frequent orders are linked below for you:
Hershey’s Cookies & Cream Drops –> YES THEY ARE GF! That’s why they are my favourite and I snack on these often!
Four Sigma Mushroom Coffee – Great coffee alternative!
Floating Rustic Wall Shelves- Amazing price and I have two sets of these on my walls because they look great!
SPERRY Lobster Shoes (For those that saw my post and were asking where to buy!)
So be sure to sign up for your free 30 day Trial of Amazon Prime & let me know what you purchase!
Birth Control. We all need it, am I right? As I inch closer to 30 I have realized hormonal birth control is absolutely not for me. I already struggle with imbalanced hormones, so continuing my journey of keeping my body as organic as it can be is always on the forefront.
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that almost 2 years ago I stopped hormonal birth control entirely. I switched to using the Caya Diaphraghm (female condom) and it has helped tremendously. If you’re interested in knowing more about it, checkout my Vlog HERE I have loved using Caya thus far and wouldn’t change its effectiveness at all. They last a few years at a time, and are really easy to use.
Further to these two methods I also ensure to use Organically based condoms. Sustain is my favourite brand, and they can be purchased from Amazon. They use all organic ingredients, which has a much lower risk of affecting your lady bits. I’ve always used Organic feminine products to ensure I don’t have any negative side effects from conventional feminine products, and condoms are most certainly included in that.
Blue Blocking Glasses are one more thing that I have recently learned about to help improve the frequency of my migraines. Blue lights can really trigger migraine sufferers, as well as just light in general. I have extreme light sensitivity that is debilitating some days, so when I had read about these and they were new to me, I decided I’d give them a try. I have linked my purchase below through Amazon, and they are around $20 retail.
They are extremely affordable and completely worth it. I work at home, and do all my blogging on my computer so having Blue Blocking glasses are very important and helpful to adjusting the light sensitivity I experience day to day. There’s so many new, different, and unheard of treatments and aids for migraine intensity and frequency. Most I have tried, but when I find something new, and it is actually something I can afford to invest in, I totally do. These have changed a lot for me and I’m very happy with them.
