Caya Diaphragm

Caya Diaphragm

Here is my Youtube Review of my personal choice of Natural Birth  Control. This is a Caya Contoured Diaphragm. Absolutely NO hormones involved. You simply insert this beforehand, and take it out the next morning, or at least 8 hours later. You can’t feel it, in fact, a few times I literally forgot about it. But they work, and if you’re someone like me who absolutely avoids messing with my bodies organic hormones then this is definitely a way to go. If you want to ask more about it, or just talk please email me at erin@glitzandgf.com

I have taken the Depo Shot for years, I had a copper IUD for 2 years, I took the pill, and they all caused various issues. Either long periods, or no periods, migraines worsened, or my skin got worse, overall feeling of panic when taking any amounts of hormones. I have been off the Depo Shot for a full year now and my body feels a lot less roller coaster for my hormones.

Boss Beauty Bar is a brand new Environmentally Conscious Spa that has opened in the heart of Whitby, ON.

Walking into Boss Beauty Bar is literally a girls dream. White walls, marble, and Rose Gold everything. It’s basically how I envision my dream office space being… only in a spa! What’s better than that? Not much, in my opinion.

They are in the process of getting their liquor license, which will definitely enhance the experience that much more in the future. Girls night in? I’m feeling it The vibe of this space is just girly, bright, and so welcoming.
So what does it entail to be an Environmentally Conscious spa? Well, first of all they are SUPER clean. New tools are used for each and every client.  The biggest part that drew me into this spa was they are free of the big 5 beauty chemicals commonly used in other spas.

No Formaldehyde, toluene, BHA, DBP or Camphor.
They use only cruelty free, vegan, and gluten free products! They do have some that aren’t, but the variety of colours they have and options is amazing.  There are so many positives that this spa has, I literally can’t get enough. They have it dressed to the nines, large white leather chairs embellished with gigantic jewels which is sure to make any women feel like a princess! They use the line of products called Delectable, which are vegan, cruelty free, gluten free, paraben free, and they smell like candy. I couldn’t get enough of this line.

They do nails, lashes, and waxing. Everything you need to get fully pampered.

They have the options of booking your appointment online. I highly suggest Amanda D, she was so relatable, friendly, and I think we laughed the entire time. It’s so refreshing to have someone who is interested in chatting and theres no uncomfortable silence, or any sort of language barrier. It really makes the experience better.
Call today and book your appointment, don’t forget on Saturdays that the Town of Whitby has FREE parking! Perfect to take advantage of this.

THE RESORT —
I was invited by Couples Resort to come for Valentines Day weekend with my sweetheart. This resort is about a 3 hour drive from Whitby. It is a beautiful drive with absolutely no traffic. Lots of trees, and such a stunning landscape to experience. It’s certainly not one of those bothersome drives that becomes painful, as it is just taking in the beauty that our province provides us.
Upon entering the resort, we checked in at the front desk. Mary met us with a friendly smile, and gave us all the information we need to explore the resort (and surrounding areas). There is so much to do while staying here, but the great part is just staying put in your room is just as satisfying. We were able to get a great balance of exploring the outdoors, and enjoying the comfort of our room.

On site is a spa where you can receive a variety of treatments (RMT Massage, Mani/Pedi, Body treatments), there is a solarium with a nice small gym and dry sauna, some shorter walking trails, as well as the Gallery.

We got ourselves checked in, checked out the dining room (I didn’t even have to tell them – they already had “Celiac” noted! Huge boost of confidence there!), and then went to unpack and see our room.

THE ROOM–

The room is beyond any expectation I had imagined. In your washroom you have a European Shower which has a sauna in it. A large closet to hang your jackets, dresses, and store your luggage. There is a small kitchen with a Keurig to brew coffee in the morning, a sink, as well as a microwave and mini fridge. One really great thing is the drinking water is right from Algonqiun— very clean and refreshing. I made sure to drink tons of water while here, there is something about water right from your backyard that fills my hippie soul with happiness! A wood fireplace awaits, and is situated directly in front of the King Size bed. A TV which includes Shaw Satellite TV service as well as Netlflix. A comfy large couch, and your own balcony which has a personal hot tub for your and your honey to enjoy in private. Oh, and did I mention the gigantic whirlpool bath tub right beside the King Size bed? Oh yes. It is pure luxury and bliss. I have never felt like such a princess and so relaxed than staying at Couples Resort. We stayed in the Reubens room, which boasts 10ft ceilings, and is just about 1000 sq ft. With all that this room has to offer, you may never want to leave it! There is really no negatives to this place! The few suggestions I would have as a Celiac Diner is that for room service, It would be nice to have a little “GF” sticker, or marker, on the lids as our first night we ordered room service but had trouble identifying whose was whose as we ordered a few of the same items. Same with breakfast, a little difficult to decipher, and some of us who require a Gluten Free diet sometimes need that extra bit of confidence. I also found that after using the Sauna I wanted something a little more than water to drink, but there was no vending machine, or access to any juice or anything outside of dining hours.  The rooms are beautiful decorated and the renovations they have done are top notch. The decor is outstanding and really adds to the amazing vibe this room has. All of the furniture is carefully hand crafted, and the wallpaper to match.

THE FOOD–

When it comes to dining, this place has it down pat. Everyone is fully understanding of what “Celiac Disease” is, means, and what it requires. You can breathe a sigh of relief knowing you will not be looked at funny or asked “is this gluten?” while staying here. You just advise while booking any dietary restrictions and they know about it the entire time you are staying.

For breakfast I had a Gluten Free Waffle, Omelette, and the Couples Retreat breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast, and hash browns). Let me tell you it has been a long time since I have had a waffle and these puppies were fluffy, sweet, and so filling. Perfect meal before venturing out into the cold to enjoy all this resort has to offer. Each morning it was a good variety of protein, carbs, and fresh fruit to enjoy.
For dinner the first night I had the 10oz New York Strip Steak, which came with fresh, crunchy green beans, and Double Smoke Bacon Confit potatoes. The steak was grilled exactly as I asked and it was seasoned wonderfully. All of the flavours and sauces complimented each portion that made up the meal. For starters I had Citrus Prawns, and Pork Belly the first night, and an Artisan Duck Salad, with Honey Tomato soup the next night. Again, everything is so fresh tasting, extremely colourful, and packed with flavour. It has been a long time since I have had Tomato soup so that was a real treat for me! I had a delicious Buccatini Carbonara, with Gluten Free Penne instead of the Spaghetti. It was served with a thick, creamy Black Pepper, Egg & Creamy Parmesan Sauce, as well as packed with Double Smoked Bacon. My taste buds were on overload! Normally I don’t allow myself much dairy, but it was well worth it on this vacation to indulge and enjoy all that this menu has to offer! They have Vegetarian options as well, for those of you that eat Vegetarian. They offer multiple desserts- I had the Gluten Free Chocolate Cake, the Creme Brûlée, and the Chocolate Ganache Tower. All so tasty and filling. For someone like me who tends to skip dessert, I was all in at Couples Resort! I indulged and it was worth it.
Over all I was super impressed with this vacation. It is the perfect place to visit for a getaway where you need some quality time. The whole package is here— and you won’t leave feeling disappointed, or hungry.  It is a beautiful drive, in a beautiful part of Ontario. I will absolutely be returning, and would highly suggest this spot to anyone who wants to have some alone time to relax and be romanced!

Flourless PB Muffins

Flourless PB Muffins

These muffins are simply, tasty, and quick to make! Doesn’t get much easier. I tweaked a few items based on my preference, but again— so darn simple!

Picture
Stay tuned as I start posting some of my favourite baking recipes.

All of this is done in my Kitchenaid Mixer & baked in my Copper Bake Ware. I prefer Copper bakeware as they are less toxic than other ways.

Preheat oven to 400F

In your mixer, combine the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup All Natural Peanut Butter
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/4 Cup Raw Honey
  • Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips (preference based! Add as many, or as little as you’d like.)
  • 1/2 cup of Protein Powder – I used Quattro Peanut Butter Chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon of Vanilla
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of Baking Powder
  • 2 Ripe Organic Bananas

Combine together until smooth- place into muffin tin and bake for 12-14 minutes.

They are great because they’re simple to make, full of protein, and super simple. They are flourless, and a great quick breakfast on the go!

Sound off below with how the recipe worked for you.

Full Moons + Migraine

Full Moons + Migraine

Any of my fellow migraine sufferers been struggling this week? I have. This entire week I’ve been battling a never ending migraine and I couldn’t figure out why. Yeah the weather has been terrible, which is really what I was blaming the migraine on. But then I read the news this morning and this evening we are expecting a Full Moon. A strawberry moon to be exact.

So how exactly does a Full Moon cause migraines? Well Scientists and doctors aren’t sure of why migraines can be triggered by the lunar cycle however a certain number of theories are floating around:

  1. The full moon can disrupt sleep; for me personally, I can’t ever sleep very well. So the extreme lack of sleep this week has definitely not aided in kicking this migraine to the curb.
  2. The full moon can change levels of serotonin. Serotonin is a big factor when it comes to migraines; when the levels of that neurotransmitter change, a migraine is often triggered.
  3. Some women’s menstrual cycles revolve with the moon, and I’ve been expecting mine this weekend, so probably a double whammy for me!
  4. We are about 70-80% water.  Changes in barometric pressure affect me heavily: when the weather is hot and humid I’m definitely plagued with a migraine. When it is overcast and cloudy, prime time as well. Weather is so unpredictable in the past year and this has been a huge problem for me.

So what have I done this week to try and help this migraine? I say that, because how often do friends, family members, or even strangers decide to say “Hey have you tried this?” And all I can think is that I have tried virtually every drug, treatment, natural remedy, etc. At this point its just about acceptance, and making it work when I have one.

  • I have been taking Tremadol, and Tylenol 3 consistently to combat the pain (I have had to work all week due to the long weekend so I could not afford to take a sick day to recover)
  •  I have been taking large amounts of Magnesium & Melatonin at bed time to try and get my body to sleep.
  • Long walks with a hat, sunscreen, and as much  coverage as I can. Although sun can make it worse, for me, it is important to get fresh air, and move my body. The more I sit, the worse I truly find it gets because the blood isn’t moving in my body and I can just feel it swooshing around in my brain.
  • Ice, Ice, Baby. Yep, good old ice packs! Neck, Shoulders, temples, etc.
  • I had Acupuncture & Osteopath on Monday, as well as had my weekly nerve blockers, B12 & Iron shot on Tuesday.
  • Coffee, and Coke. I find the caffeine in Coffee when I wake up might make the pain a little less severe, and the cold carbonation and caffeine from Coca Cola can temporarily release the pain. Plus, any form of hydration is good (in my opinion).

I hope you all can find some relief tonight if you have been suffering this week! Let me know how the moon affects you!

Il Fornello Ajax- Vegan Menu Review

Il Fornello Ajax- Vegan Menu Review

If you haven’t read my last review please CLICK HERE as I did a partial review at the beginning of the summer.

I went to Il Fornello in Ajax on Friday with my friend Laura. She is definitely the best person to bring along as she has been Vegan for a while now and I literally drool when seeing her Instagram posts.

So Il Fornello has quite a decent selection of Gluten Free, Vegan menu items. All specifically curated by Margie Cook, Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN) and a Certified Vegan Lifestyle Coach and Educator (VLCE), this menu really delivers.

We started our meal off with some delicious warm olives. Olives are something I recently started acquiring a taste for as I often struggle with being Sodium Deficient. Because my diet is generally very clean, and I never add salt to my food outside of a recipe, I often struggle with enough salt intake. So Olives are the perfect thing and these are great. They were warmed, super garlicky, and full of flavour. Great appetizer for sharing over a glass of wine.

I was hoping to try the Gluten Free Arncaini  as I saw the menu was posted online, but the Ajax location did not have them listed on the Vegan Menu and the server advised they were fried in the shared fryer. They sound delicious though! Totally would have gone for those as an appetizer.

For the Mains we got the Spaghetti Bolognese  with Gluten Free Rotini. They use “Beyond Meat” Balognese, with their own homemade tomato sauce. It was really delicious, and me who isn’t a vegan even liked the pasta dish. Speaking texturally, if you didn’t tell me it was a Vegan sauce I would have no clue otherwise. It doesn’t have the same greasy flavour that beef does. For me though, currently trying to eat relatively clean where I can, it was a really great alternative. I would certainly order it again as it was hearty, and reminded me just like a normal Balognese pasta dish.

And of course, pizza. My one true love. The Asparagus E Mozzarella Pizza was fantastic. I’m not sure if there is a gluten free dough and a gluten gree vegan dough, or if they are one in the same. But this dough was a bit sweeter which I enjoyed. It held together very well and did not crumble. The vegan cheese was melty and stringy and had great flavour. The asparagus was cooked perfectly and added a bit of crunch on top of the most delicious sautéed onions ever. It was a pizza match made in heaven.

I rate this menu very high on the list. As always, Il Fornello has wonderful Cross Contamination processes for keeping it Celiac Safe. Always call ahead, always do your own questioning and remember to make your own choices. My review is my experience only my options.

When searching for the perfect Summer Outfit, a blazer is an absolute must. If you’re anything like me ( cough cough, auto-immune disease fun!)  my body temperature changes all the time. Layers are my friend. So finding the perfect outfit for warm days was easy to find thanks to Dynamite!

I found this beautiful Black Floral Blazer on the sale rack at Dynamite.
Online, it seems they only have the white one in stock– but it is still just as beautiful and at a great price as well!

My super cute White Jeans are from American Eagle, To be honest, they are “leggings” aka the most comfortable and trendy thing to possibly be worn!

On my wrist I am sporting a BellaBeat Urban Leaf – it helps track my steps, workouts, stress levels, period, as well as helps remind me to meditate every day! Its a really cute accessory, yet also doubling as super functional.

And last but not least. The holy grail of comfortable sandals. Skechers Canada really nails the shoe game in terms of comfort in my opinion. These “Meditation- Studio Kicks”  are super comfortable. The sole is created with Memory Foam and the straps are stretchy material that makes working these in a breeze. They actually don’t have to be worn in at all because of how these were crafted.
