Melissa is the owner of Happyditty Gluten Free Bakery in Kingston, ON. I have been buying all my cakes and baked goods from her since moving to Kingston and she is absolutely awesome. She can accommodate all dietary needs, and even can make Vegan items! I have gotten my Reese’s Birthday Cake which was absolutely a peanut butter DREAM and then at least once or twice a month I’m getting the mixed baked good packs she puts together. The bakery is actually located in her home, and she has two separate kitchens one for her Gluten Free baking located on a separate floor from the rest of the house to ensure no cross contamination.
Be sure to contact Melissa for all your GF needs in Kingston- she is really great at taking whatever you have in mind and making it with her own twist. Everything is always fantastic and delicious and I’m always telling everyone I know to order from her.
Do any of you have jobs that require travel? If you’re new to my blog, and me, then you may not know that along with blogging I do also have a day job. I work from home luckily, but usually every few months I have to go my work office which is located in Markham, ON.
First time having to travel since moving to Kingston, and I knew that the Hilton Markham/Toronto Suites was going to be where I stayed. This hotel is stunning and has everything humanly possible to survive. Our checking was a breeze, we got the pool hours and the menu for the restaurant before we headed out to check out room.
Our room was MASSIVE to say the least. It was a giant circle, with a Dining Room, Living room, bedroom with king size bed and bathroom. The room was filled with bright lights and marble tiles and black accent furniture. In the living room there was a sink, microwave, coffee maker and a mini fridge.
The bathroom did not have a bathtub only a shower, and oddly enough the bathroom is where we had most of the “negative” experience. The bathroom had an odd smell of urine, that got stronger the longer we stayed. Also, there was no actual shower door, so it was exposed and the water leaked all over the bathroom floor making it impossible to keep dry.
Included in our stay we got the continental breakfast for $10 each. Food wise this place knew what was up when it comes to Celiac Disease. The chef personally came out to greet me and offered me an array of items he could make me for breakfast. We settled on Eggs Benedict which is a personal fave. The fact the Chef took the time to come and introduce himself and offer to make me a personalized meal which he delivered out all on his own was above and beyond. I couldn’t get too many photos as I wound up being almost late for work but can assure you that the breakfast & service was phenomenal.
Upon checking out, we were asked how our stay was. The only thing we really brought up was the bathroom smell, which the Manager offered a lunch for my boyfriend on the house due to that issue. That shows me that they take issues very seriously and aspire to give the best experience to their staff. Thank you to Anna and the staff for taking such great care of us. We will definitely be back!

This past Labour Day long weekend, I was downtown just walking around enjoying the hustle and bustle of Queens & SLC Move in weekend. We decided to go checkout the Market and just do some people watching, taking in the sights and smells of downtown. While down there we had remembered that BLU Martini had Gluten Free fish & Chips, and so we decided to go check them out and find out how gluten free they actually were.
Contrary to my fears, they have a dedicated fryer. Life changing. We immediately decided to share lunch and enjoy a drink on the patio. I got a virgin margarita and we dove right into the menu. We were advised everything on the menu can be adjusted to be gluten free, but they also advised their menu is basically all gluten free, they have some bread to dip with some of the meals but that bread is kept and prepped in a totally separate area of the kitchen. They really seem to know the process for keeping things celiac safe. We decided on the Fish & Chips, and the Coconut shrimp as our appetizer. The Coconut shrimp had a pineapple curry dip which was fantastic. They were hot, sweet and the perfect amount of crunchy goodness.
The Fish & Chips. OH MY GOSH. Beyond to die for. The coleslaw that came with it was extremely spicy so it was the black sheep on the plate, but my boyfriend ate it as I can’t handle spice. The fish had a batter that seemed to be some sort of corn flake type cereal and a rice flour blend. It worked well, I’d say skip the huge chunks of cereal but the rice flour blend was so tasty. Also the fries were amazing obviously, but I’m also a fry freak so any chance I get to eat fries I certainly take. The french fries were seasoned perfectly, as was the tartar sauce.
The menu is super easy to read, next time I’ll be getting the chicken fingers and french fries, and more than likely even more. The menu items are clearly marked with a green GF – but they can adjust all the menu items to be gluten free. Overall this place is definitely Celiac Safe, however please always advise your server of your requirements as this was my experience only and yours will be different. I have done the foot work and asked these questions but things change frequently so I always leave a disclaimer to be your own advocate and only order what you feel is safe based on the information you have at the time of ordering.
I am here to give you a list of my favourite items I purchase from Amazon for packing lunches for back to school or even work. Lunches can be SO difficult, so I hope the items I post here you are able to enjoy and also find great use out of, and hopefully help with having stress free lunch packing. Further to that, on most of the items I am posting they are significantly cheaper than most retail stores, and the convenience of having them ship right to your door, plus you can even set up Subscribe & Save if you want to “Set it and forget it!”
Amazon Prime also gets you free 2 day shipping, which is worth its weight in GOLD. If you haven’t you can get a free month membership and also university & college students get a reduced rate or free in some areas (Subject to your location). So without making you wait any longer, click below to see my favourite Lunch and On The Go items.

Grizzly Grill x Cottage Springs Patio Party – 6.21.19
Last Friday we were invited to one of Kingston’s most popular restaurants downtown. Located on Princess St, Grizzly Grill is a great establishment with all kinds of events going on. Cottage Springs Vodka Soda were in town and doing some samples of the drinks, so we were invited to try out the drinks and all the gluten free food. The Griz has pool tables, a bar, two floors to choose from for dining, and a really great patio also. This was my first time dining at the patio, but I have eaten here quite often before as they are so familiar with Cross Contamination and how to accommodate the needs of most dietary issues.
Cottage Springs vodka soda is a gluten free drink made by a Canadian Company based out of Toronto. Not only are the drinks Gluten Free, but they are also Sugar Free and Sweetener Free. Using only natural flavours, these drinks are absolutely refreshing and for someone like myself who avoids sugar as much as possible due to Rheumatoid Arthritis, these drinks are a hit. With flavours like Ontario Peach, Watermelon, and Lemon Lime there is certainly a flavour for everyone. They are light, refreshing, and I found them very flavourful.
The food was fantastic, as always. The Grizz sources local produce and meats as much as possible. This is one of the things about Kingston businesses I truly love. Everyone supports each other and our economy can only benefit from this circle we have going in town. I love seeing companies source local and support each other.
They had half price appetizers so we got an order of delicious Mussels in an Orange Citrus Creme Sauce. Mussels are one of my most ordered apps. Not only are they packed with iron but they are so light and I love the texture of them. We shared one of the most fantastic Steak & Avocado salads that I have ever tasted, although I would highly suggest Grizz uses Goat Cheese on it instead of the thick sliced parmesan, but overall it was a really fantastic salad with tons of flavour and the juiciest steak I’ve had in a long while.
The Chicken Pesto Pizza we ordered as our main was on a Gluten Free Thin crust. The crust was quite delicious and crunchy. I’m a huge fan of Pesto sauce on my pizzas, and this one inspired us to actually attempt to make our own Pesto this summer for our pizzas at home.
The Grizzly Grill will be having another Patio Party next week with Strongbow Cider – if you’re interested be sure to call and make a reservation! These patio parties are a blast and we will be attending as many as possible. As always, be sure to ask your own questions/call ahead and speak to whomever is in charge and can answer your questions. The Grizzly Grill is able to accommodate dietary restrictions but it is your responsibility to double check before dining. My experiences are my own, and I have always done lots of research before I dine at any establishment.
**The food and drinks in this have been provided by Grizz & Cottage Springs, but the feedback and opinions are my own**
I am the first to admit I’m a total and complete Amazon Prime addict. I work from home, and rarely drive due to migraines so being able to order something and know it will arrive extremely quickly is a game changer for me!
So- What do I order from Amazon? Literally everything. If you create a wish list, I have it set up that I’m alerted anytime there is a price drop. I also frequently check out the Warehouse Deals because the items in there are totally fine, half the price, and they do accept returns on warehouse items so you can’t possibly lose. I have gotten so many household items (decor & furniture) reduced by so much because of the Warehouse Deals. I also take advantage of Subscribe & Save as a Prime member, and am always checking the timed deals. Once you start to make purchases Amazon will highlight items related to what you’ve searched and often times you will find an item you had looked at on a Timed Deal.
A few of my frequent orders are linked below for you:
Hershey’s Cookies & Cream Drops –> YES THEY ARE GF! That’s why they are my favourite and I snack on these often!
Four Sigma Mushroom Coffee – Great coffee alternative!
Floating Rustic Wall Shelves- Amazing price and I have two sets of these on my walls because they look great!
SPERRY Lobster Shoes (For those that saw my post and were asking where to buy!)
So be sure to sign up for your free 30 day Trial of Amazon Prime & let me know what you purchase!
A proudly certified Toronto gluten free restaurant specializing in Japanese, Thai and Asian cuisine Riz is pleased to announce that they have obtained the Gluten Free Food Service Certification (GFFS) from the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America (GIG) for 2015. This certification acknowledges our ongoing commitment, as a gluten free restaurant, to preparing the highest quality of CELIAC safe gluten free pan Asian cuisine.
I have eaten at Riz many, many times. It is always very fast service, with some amazing food not found elsewhere. My usual order:
Chicken Spring Roll
Spicy Salmon Sushi
Dim Sum (shrimp)
Young Chow Fried Rice with Chicken
General Tao Chicken
The menu has such a wide variety of everything you could possible imagine in the Asian Cuisine world! Certified GF and out of this world! I would HIGHLY suggest this to anyone looking to fulfil some Asian Cuisine Cravings! There is free parking near by as well! There is another location of Riz on Bayview, however that location is not certified GF and do not follow the same protocols so I would not suggest going there if you have anyone celiac in your party. The food is clearly labelled GF on the plates, and they have two separate kitchens.

Monday – 12:00 to 8:00
Tuesday – 11:00 to 8:00

Friday – 11:00 to 9:30

If you’re looking for some crispy, high quality fish; Schooner’s is the place to go. They offer Gluten Free folks one of the most extensive menu’s for deep fried heaven. Onion rings, Chicken Fingers, Corn Dogs, Poutine, French fries, and more. Even dessert items are available to complete your meal. I eat here often, and they even offer delivery through Skip The Dishes which is fantastic for those of us that are a bit further away from the establishment.
If you need somewhere to get all your deep fried cravings answered, Schooners is the place.
Tiffany, one of the owners was so fabulous and extremely helpful! This establishment is 100% safe for celiacs, they have recently undergone renovations so there is now sit down dining available, and they were also Certified Gluten Free through the Gluten Free Food Program, making them 100% safe for Celiacs.
